If you haven’t seen it yet, the “Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man” ride at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in Florida lives up to its name. It’s indeed amazing, maybe the best theme-park attraction ever created. Only a matter of months ago, the ride was given a facelift, with new visual effects and improved animation, and […]
Spider-Man, Love, And What Makes Him Tick
I’m a sucker for a good love story, especially when it involves superheroes. They have such a different existence from us that I feel like they almost need a normal person at their side to keep them grounded. Sure, that leads to some predictable plot points: villains taking loved ones hostage and exploiting the weakness […]

What a Tangled Web
Like the rest of Marvel and DC’s stables of characters, Spider-Man was used by Hostess to sell various dessert snacks in the 1970s. But even as a kid, I always found this particular Twinkies ad…disturbing. That shot of Madam Web supplicating herself before Spider-Man, just for some golden sponge cake. It just doesn’t seem right.

Is This More Action Than Even Spider-Man Can Handle?
No. No, it’s not. However, in its defense, by 1982 standards the Atari 2600 game was good enough to dominate a surprising amount of my time as a kid. So much so that to this day, I still know the game’s opening music by heart: And not to beat a dead horse, but once again, […]
