The news on Friday about the passing of illustrator and comics legend George Perez quite honestly knocked the wind out of me, even though we were all sadly expecting it, following his announcement last year of his battle with pancreatic cancer. I don’t have the words for how much his work meant to me or what a good guy he was, so with your indulgence I’ll instead re-present the entry about George that Chris Ryall and I wrote in our 2009 book COMIC BOOKS 101, with the sad admission that it’s far too short to even start to express his importance to and influence on the art form. (I mean, how did I not even mention his WONDER WOMAN run? What was I thinking?)
My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved George. Search the world over, and you could never find a better artist, or a better man.
